F.lli Scardigli History

The company was founded after the end of the Second World War in 1946 and began its activity with the distribution of the goods in the area of Livorno and Sardinia Island and with shipments by rail.

In the fifties, Fratelli Scardigli was led by its founders Sirio Scardigli, Tullio Scardigli and Carmelo D'Angelo and estabilished also a steamship company with other partners in order to further develop the sea traffic, and at the end had six vessels for the line from Livorno to the various ports of Sardinia island.

Around 1965 the Italian government settled his own steamship company for the service between the continent and the island with political tariff and so it was necessary to move the 3 best ships from the service to Sardinia to a new service to Libya and sell the other vessels. In this period the company developped both the International Ocean Forwarding and the Port Services in Livorno port, while it was leaving the railways forwarding business.

In 1972 the Company sold his shareholdings in the steamship company and concentrated their interest in the sea-fonvarding, the Customs agency and the warehousing and distribution.

The company developped its activities and services during the years with a particular attention to the quality, to the service personalization and to the flow of information to its customers with the elaboration of the EDI and informatic system.

In this way the company got many important customers; some of them are the biggest chemical industries in Italy. The cooperation with the chemical sector of the ENI Industry which then became ENICHEM, EVC, POLIMERI EUROPA, etc. etc., goes back to the end of the 70's.

Despite various and turbolent changes in the italian chemical industry, this business relationship never ended and instead achieved a form of cooperation which differs from the old common relationship between customers/suppliers and tends to a real long term partnership.

The company, whose management was replaced by the founders' second generation, opened an office in La Spezia in 1989, in Milan in 1995 and achieved a network of reliable agents all over the world, who are all personally known by the Directors.

Furthermore, new and wide warehouses with all kind of handling facilities have been built, as well as it developped a proper trucking activity at disposal of the sea shipping which is the real core business.
